Mentorship Program Empty
PostSubject: Mentorship Program   Mentorship Program EmptySun Jul 05, 2009 7:21 pm

I would like to go ahead and work on developing the mentorship program. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Here's what I picture right now:

We solicit Green Party volunteers to take on one or two new citizens at a time.

We provide them with helpful information - tell them about the eCanada (and CGP) forums, the immigration bursary and how to apply for it, the health program, perhaps send them links to some helpful online tools, and friend them. Plato may be helpful, but his two-way dialogue is somewhat limited, so we can really help fill in a role.

Throughout the first few weeks, we can answer questions, and provide a helping hand. I don't know if we want to do party-sponsored gifting, but even just having a reliable person to ask questions, or donate a gift to and have it gifted back can be very helpful.

We should also provide them with some Green Party information, without pushing it too hard. Explain that the mentor program is a Green Party initiative and that we'd like their input and participation as CGP members. I don't think we have to force the message too much, and people might get annoyed or frustrated at a blatantly political message.

I can create a file, keeping track of the program, so we can have some sense of how we're doing.

Does anyone have suggestions for the program? I'm also currently unsure how to locate new players, does anyone know an easy way to do this? Also, let me know if you'd be interested in participating as a mentor, either by replying here or sending me a PM.

Great idea Daniel; I've created this seperate forum for this program.

I would definitely be interested in being a mentor. As for finding new players, try looking through companies who hire employees with 0 skill level (often government run companies).

Count me in as well. My organization Guerrilla Ontology has opened a food manufacturing company. I'm focusing on new people to the game. I've had three new people who joined today apply. I've emailed them the following email:

Quote :
Hi there!

Welcome to The Hemp Company. I noticed you just signed up today. I know it's a little confusing at first, and can seem a bit convoluted. I assure you the game gets a lot better once you get going. There isn't a lot of good information on the game in terms of guides I'm afraid, which is why I've gone and created The Hemp Company. I want to get new people off to a better start than I did.

Check out the eRepublik wiki: http://wiki.erepublik.com/
And the forums for eCanada: http://ecanada.ws/forums/

These are two places where you'll receive the most information.

I'll message you again in a day or two to see how you're doing. If you have any questions about the game or about The Hemp Company just ask.

I'll just leave you with a very important game tip. Wellness, indicated by the number under the guy to the left of your home page, should always be above 40. There are different ways to increase it. One is through gifts. From time to time THC will gift you wellness based on how productive you are and how loyal you are to the company. The other way is through fighting and then healing at a hospital. The slowest way to increase your wellness is to buy food from the market. Everyday it'll auto consume the food in your inventory and will slowly raise your wellness. I recommend fighting, as it's the fastest way to increase your health substantially.
Thanks,
Alex, CEO
The Hemp Company

I've also created a google account to communicate with employees and especially newbies that are just starting out and not really knowing what's going on. I love the idea of a mentorship program and I'll help in any way I can.

Alex

Thank you all for your support of this program. Here's a draft of a possible first letter (thank you Alex for sharing yours, that was very helpful). Let me know if you have any feedback for it. This letter will only be a suggestion - while much of the content should appear the same, feel free to use your own personal style.

Welcome to eRepublik! I'm part of a mentorship program that the Canadian Green Party has set up for new citizens. I'll be here to help answer any questions you have, and to share some tips for new players, if you're interested.

Check out the eRepublik wiki: http://wiki.erepublik.com/
And the forums for eCanada: http://ecanada.ws/forums/

One of the first things you should do is keep your wellness above 40. You gain wellness by eating (which you do automatically at the start of each day, as long as you have food in your inventory), by receiving gifts and by going to a hospital. You'll be able to go to the hospital after you reach level 5. You can go only once a day, as long as you have fought in a war that day, but it's a great way to gain wellness fast.

Once you've joined the Canadian forums, take a look at this page: http://ecanada.ws/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=465 Canada has a health program, which costs only $1 per wellness, so if you're falling below 40, or just want a boost, check them out!

Also, you can send a message to Immigration Canada about the new Canadian bursary. After you spend a few days working, send them a message asking for the bursary, and they'll send you $15 for being a new Canadian citizen!

Later on, you might be interested in joining a political party. The Canadian Green Party is very welcoming of new members - we're one of the newer parties, and have made new Canadians one of our priorities. If you want to check out the Green Party forum, it's at https://canadagreenparty.forumotion.net/index.htm. You can find some of the other parties in Canada by clicking here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/country/politics/Canada

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Is this message too long? If so, some of the info could be taken out - more info about the hospitals could be given in a future message for example, since new players wouldn't be able to use them right away anyway. Is there anything that's missing?

I'm getting some other organizational stuff set up for the program - once I get some feedback on the letter, we should be able to start the program in a day or two. I know there's lots to do, but we can develop it as we move through it. A lot of the program will rely on the expertise and experience of the mentors, but if we're getting asked some hard to answer questions, we can help out each other.

That letter looks great, I think it covers everything that newer citizens should know. Very Happy

Are you going to need funding from the charity for this project? I'm assuming so, as I don't know what else the charity funds could go towards in the near future. Razz The charity should be starting tomorrow, so let me know how much you might need for the program.

I like the letter, I don't think it's too long, but if we aren't getting a big reply then we can always change it later.

I can't see the program costing too much to start, but again only Daniel can really answer that because he knows the ins and outs of it.

The cost depends on the situation of the new players we find, though I agree with Donnie - it won't cost much to start.

If we start contacting people who have already gained a few levels and managed to get their wellness down past 40, or people who decide that they would rather live in a province with a Q5 hospital, we may have some small costs. In the first week of operations, I'd be surprised if the cost of the program went over 2 gold. That would be enough to gift roughly 30 wellness, and purchase 6 moving tickets, at the current market costs.

Thanks for the help everyone. We're ready to go - so far the program has contacted 6 new Canadians! I'll periodically send out updates with who the mentors are, and how many people we've contacted. Thus far, Andrew Mendelson and myself have each contacted 3 people.

What do you all think about advertising for the mentorship program on newspapers? As a pro, it would help raise our profile, and spread the word about what we're doing. As a con, it's possible we'll get a lot of people requesting mentors, creating a back-log. Let me know what you think!

I think we should definitely advertise for the program in newspapers. Although it might create a lot of requests, we need as much publicity/popularity as we can get. Plus, most new citizens have very similar questions that aren't too difficult to answer; I think we could each take on a couple more if needed.

Ok. I've posted a bit about the program in my newspaper here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/training-war-and-new-citizen-mentor-program-852068/1/20

If we could get some official Green Party Newspaper coverage, that's be good too!

Thanks!

We've already gotten some favourable responses. I'll be updating a list of people who have requested mentors, so if you'd like to help with the program, please take a look in that thread, and respond right there so we don't have multiple people attempting to contact the same person.

If everyone could go to the article Andrew posted, and vote it up, we could make the top-voted news and reach a wider audience! Here's the article link: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-canadian-green-party-introduces-a-new-citizen-mentorship-program--852151/1/20
